Music & Events at The Market at Grelen

The Market at Grelen is set on a spectacular 600-acre tree farm in Somerset, VA.  As a Casual Cafe, European-style Garden Shop & Event Venue, this is a wonderful destination.  They often have live music playing on the patio where you can enjoy your farm-to-table lunch and a glass of wine.  They offer Virginia beer, cider & wine tastings from 11 - 3 on Saturday or by appointment for groups 8+.  In the evening, when they are not hosting private weddings, they have dinner & music nights as well as Open Mic Taco nights.

Nichols Galleries

Visit the Studio and Gallery of Artist Frederick Nichols. In 1977, Nichols and his wife Beth  purchased an old General Store in the Village of Barboursville where they established his painting studio and printmaking workshop.  A graduate of UVA and Pratt Institute, his work has been exhibited widely in this country and abroad, and is found in numerous public collections, including the Butler Museum of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio,  the Mississippi Museum of Art, Jackson,  the University of Virginia, and the Osaka Cultural Center in Japan.  In 1997, the Nichols purchased the Barboursville Estes-Sparks Hotel in order to open an Art Gallery. In 1998, they held their first show, “A Celebration of the Landscape,” featuring the work of over 20 Virginia artists. Since opening, Nichols Gallery Annex has exhibited the work of over 50 artists from the mid-Atlantic region.
